Nepali community in Australia gift Buddha idol to Gillard

Representatives of the Nepali community in Australia have gifted a Buddha idol to Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

On behalf of the Lumbini-Kapilvastu Day Movement, Global Coordinator Ram Kumar Shrestha and Australia's Sub-Continent Ministerial Consultative Committee Member Mahendra Lamsal jointly presented the gift to the Prime Minister on Wednesday.

While presenting the gift Shrestha and Lamsal said that Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal, a local report said.

The community decided to present the idol wishing peace in Australia along with its prosperous development, they said.

According to the report, Prime Minister Gillard expressed gratitude for the gift and expressed her happiness to have opportunity to have the peace symbol at her office. nepalnews.com
